General Record Search Help

General Record Search Help

Before the current online Land Registry system was implemented, the Land Titles offices were required to keep a General Record.  Instruments filed with the Land Titles offices that related to land, but that did not specifically describe the affected land, were filed in the General Record.  These instruments were filed in alphabetical order.

The General Record was divided into the "A" docket and the "B" docket.

A Docket

The "A" docket contained instruments such as writs of execution, maintenance orders, receiving orders, certificates of changes of names for corporations and assignments in bankruptcy.

B Docket

The "B" docket contained instruments that granted authority to a third party to deal on behalf of an owner or an interest holder.  These types of instruments included letters of probate, letters of administration, Public Trustee certificates and powers of attorney.

How to Search the General Record

Documents filed in the "A" dockets and the "B" dockets of the former Regina Land Titles Office and the former Moose Jaw Land Titles Office are available for viewing online.  The other Land Titles Offices are not available online.  See below for more details.

To view online general record documents:
  1. Click on the Docket dropdown and select a docket.
  2. Select SEARCH.
    • The system will provide you with a list of documents filed in that docket by alphabetical order.
    • If you click on a name listed in the 'From' column, the system will display all the instruments in the docket from that name to the name referenced in the 'To' column.
  3. Once you have found the document you require, record the instrument number written on the docket card.
  4. Select the Search link.
  5. Select Pre-Conversion Instrument in the Search dropdown box.
  6. Enter the instrument number you recorded and select SEARCH.
    • The system will bring back an image of the document or will create a pick of the document, which you will be able to view once the document has been scanned into the system.
